Supervising Attorney

Alexis A. Ascher has been a public defender at Appellate Advocates for more than 20 years, and a Supervising Attorney since 2018.  She is a recipient of the New York State Bar’s 2023 Award for Excellence in Mandated Representation.  In 2022, Alexis successfully obtained the exoneration of a client who was wrongfully convicted in Queens County and served 10 years of a 15-year prison sentence. 

Since the enactment of the Domestic Violence Survivors Justice Act (DVSJA) in 2019, Alexis supervises the practice area at Appellate Advocates, which handles the majority of such cases in New York.  An active member of the Statewide DVSJA Task Force, Alexis assists attorneys navigate the sentencing and resentencing applications for domestic violence survivors who suffered substantial abuse that significantly contributed to their offense.   

Alexis graduated from Northeastern University School of Law in 2000.  Following law school, she clerked for two criminal court judges in the Massachusetts Superior Court.  She attended Brooklyn College (CUNY) and received her B.A. in Political Science.
