Lauren Courtney (she/her/hers) is a Law Fellow in Appellate Advocates’ Domestic Violence Survivors Justice Act practice. Lauren graduated with highest pro bono distinction from Stanford Law School. While there, she served as Editor-in-Chief of the Stanford Journal of Civil Rights and Civil Liberties, led the domestic violence pro bono project, and won Best Oralist in the 2023 Kirkwood Moot Court competition. Lauren also participated in the Community Law Clinic and conducted research on the experiences of incarcerated survivors of domestic violence in California’s parole system. She was a 2024 recipient of the Deborah Rhode Public Service Award for her work with criminalized survivors.
Prior to arriving at Appellate Advocates, Lauren interned in Brooklyn Defender Services’ Integrated Defense Practice, the Family Violence Appellate Project, and worked as a domestic violence advocate in Washington, D.C. She holds a B.A., summa cum laude, in Political Science and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies from the George Washington University.
