Medina, Maris

Staff Attorney

Maris Medina is a Staff Attorney in the Direct Appeals practice. She graduated from the Loyola University Chicago School of Law. As a former journalist, Maris’ experiences in law school were guided by her interests in and commitment to government accountability.  Prior to joining Appellate Advocates, she supported FOIA and First Amendment litigation at Loevy & Loevy, a Chicago-based civil rights law firm. Maris also worked at the Illinois Attorney General’s Office’s FOIA Division, Chicago Appleseed Center for Fair Courts, Chicago City Council government oversight committee, and the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press. 

At Loyola, she led and participated in the Appellate Advocacy Honors Program, served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Loyola Chicago International Law Review, and published two student articles on divergent abortion outcomes in predominantly Catholic countries and grand jury secrecy. Prior to law school, Maris worked as a video journalist for The Hill covering Washington politics and was awarded a regional student Emmy award for her piece on homeless encampments in Washington, D.C.
