Staff Attorney

Johanny Santana is a Staff Attorney in the Direct Appeals Practice. Prior to joining Appellate Advocates, Johanny was a federal appellate litigator with the Social Security Administration for a decade, litigating over 500 appeals in the Northern, Eastern, Southern, and Western Districts of New York as well as before the Second Circuit. Johanny also served as the agency’s subject matter expert in mandamus litigation. 

Johanny graduated from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law where she served as Notes Editor for the Cardozo Journal of International and Comparative Law and represented asylum applicants through the Human Rights and Genocide Clinic and the Asylum Access Ecuador Intensive Clinic. Johanny served as a judicial intern for the Honorable Craig S. Walker in New York State Supreme Court, Criminal Part and the Honorable Claire C. Cecchi in the District Court for the District of New Jersey. She holds a B.A. in English and a minor in Philosophy from John Jay College of Criminal Justice where she graduated magna cum laude.
