The strike by New York State corrections officers officially ended on Monday, March 10. Still under-staffed, prisons throughout the system are slowly resuming operations, including legal calls, legal visits, and social visits, over the next few weeks. The ability of each facility to conduct normal operations is dependent on staffing at each particular facility. We continue to work in coalition with other organizations to alert DOCCS when we hear from clients and/or loved ones that basic needs are not being met – specifically a lack of food, medication, and heat – as well as any concerns regarding safety. We will continue to report any issues to DOCCS, as your loved one’s safety is of the upmost importance. If you are concerned about a loved one’s treatment or the conditions at a certain prison, please write Appellate Advocates’ Prison-Based Services at [email protected] and provide us with the necessary information.
