Social Work Program

The Social Work Program at Appellate Advocates works closely with attorneys in all practice areas to provide high-quality holistic representation. We employ a client-centered, strength-based, trauma informed approach.

The Social Work Program assists attorneys by providing comprehensive mitigation reports, social work evaluations, and mental health assessments for our clients.  These documents are used in a variety of post-conviction legal filings including immigration cases, Domestic Violence Survivors Justice Act petitions, and Sex Offender Registry Act hearings.

We also provide trauma-informed supportive counseling with a licensed social worker or social work intern to clients in the community and those who are currently incarcerated.  Our Program connects clients to community based mental health, substance abuse, or other specialized treatment programs in coordination with Appellate Advocates’ Re-entry Program.

The Social Work Program is a certified Seminar in Field Instruction placement for social work interns and hosts two to three students each academic year. Students work with both the Social Work and Re-entry Programs at Appellate Advocates to provide comprehensive services in both areas.
